Patricia B. Brown Obituary
Patricia Mary “Pat” Brown, née Breen, 82, of Chicago, passed away on October 10, 2026. She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and aunt whose wit and generosity will be lovingly remembered.

Pat was born on October 20, 1943 in Chicago, the daughter of Patrick and Dorothy Breen; sister to Dennis (Dody), Mike, and the late Tim and Tom (Linda). She was also a sister-in-law to Barbara and the late Michael and a loving aunt to Mickey, Mark, Michael, Sandy, Jenny, Chrissy, Taylor, Jason, Daniel, Patrick, Francis and Margaret.

Her early education began at William G. Hibbard School, where she completed kindergarten in 1949. She continued her education at Our Lady of Mercy elementary school. In 1953 the family moved to Mount Prospect and she attended Central School until Saint Raymond School opened; she graduated from Saint Raymond School in 1957. She then attended St. Patrick Academy in Des Plaines graduating in 1961.

Through a mutual friend, Cindy, Pat met her future husband, Harold Jerry Brown. Their first date was at the Buffalo ice cream parlor at the corner of Central and Devon. They married on October 12, 1962 beginning a lifetime together filled with family and shared memories.

Pat’s dedication to learning continued throughout adulthood. She was a member of Mensa. She earned a Bachelor of Arts from Mundelein College in 1971, a Master of Arts in Library Science from Rosary College in 1974, and a Master of Science from George Williams College in 1982. She completed a counseling internship in Chicago but ultimately found her calling as a librarian.

Her career reflected her lifelong love of books and learning. She served as head librarian at Navistar, medical librarian at Oak Park Hospital, librarian at the Illinois School of Professional Psychology, and head librarian at the chiropractic college in Lombard. She also cataloged books for individuals with large private libraries in their homes. During the 1980s, she helped revitalize school libraries in Glenview through a federally funded grant project. Outside of work she gave her time as a hospice volunteer.

Quick-witted and candid, Pat always let you know what was on her mind. An avid reader, she was known to finish a book in a single day. She enjoyed cross-stitching, watching Jeopardy!, online Scrabble, and searching for treasures at garage and estate sales. She would resell her finds and donate the proceeds to Little Sisters of the Poor, Orphans of the Storm, and pancreatic cancer research, turning a favorite pastime into a meaningful way to help others.

Pat was the beloved wife of Harold Jerry Brown; loving mother of the late Geoffrey Brown and mother-in-law of Roxanne Brown; cherished grandmother of Alexandra David and her husband, Benjamin David; and treasured great-grandmother of Jesse David.

She will be deeply missed by her family and friends, who will carry forward memories of her sharp wit, generous spirit, and unmistakable personality.

There will be a visitation at 10:30 a.m. followed by a funeral service at 11:30 a.m. on Friday, October 30, 2026, at St. Mary of the Woods Church, 6955 North Hiawatha, Chicago, IL 60646.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Advocate Hospice in Pat’s memory.
