Julien Charles Gallet, 87, retired Deputy Chief of Police-Detective Division, Chicago, Police Department, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family on November 22, 2023. Julien is survived by his loving wife, Deborah; cherished daughters, Julie (John) Rinaldi and Kelly (Michael) Lucid; grandchildren, Jonathan Howe, Jeremy Hamlin, Justin Hamlin, Jillian Rinaldi (Daniel Godsel) and Jamie Rinaldi; great-grandchildren, Alyssa Howe and Winona Godsel; and fond uncle to many. Preceded in death by parents, Julien Gallet and Anna Ligas; sister, Germaine Hosman (Gallet); brother, Arthur Gallet; brother-in-law, Ron Hosman; nephew, John Hosman; and niece, Lisa Hosman. A visitation will be held from 2:00-8:00 p.m. on Sunday, November 26, 2023, with the funeral service at 6:30 p.m. at Elmhurst Community Funeral Home – THE AHLGRIM CHAPEL, 567 S. Spring Road, Elmhurst. Friends and family are invited to attend and pay their respects. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Young at Heart Senior Pet Adoptions, 4301 S. Timothy O. Schaefer, Age 63, Served as an officer for Lincolnwood Police Dept. for 30 years. Proud member of a number of organizations, including serving as the President of the German American Police Association and member of the TKE fraternity. Survived by three children, Mark, Nicole (Jeff), and Matthew (Shannon), his granddaughter, Adelynn, and his dog, Layla, his partner, Cathy, godchildren Danny and Sydney, many nieces and nephews, extended family and friends. Preceded in death by his parents Richard P. And Rose Marie (nee Boeykens) and his three brothers, William, Richard S. and Dennis. He is the former husband of Mary Beth (nee Luecker) Schaefer. On December 1st, 1958, the tragic loss of 95 lives occurred at Our Lady of Angels school here in Chicago one of the worst school fires in U.S. History ... on Friday December 1st, 2023, there'll be a mass of remembrance commemorating the 65th year of this horrific tragedy ... All are welcome to attend.
Services will be at Holy Family Church, just west of Saint Ignatius College Prep ... 1114 W. Roosevelt Rd., Chicago, Illinois at 6:00pm, doors open at 4:30pm, parking adjacent to the church.
The celebrant for the mass will be Chicago Fire Department Chaplain Fr. William McFarland and services will commence with the Chicago Fire Department Color Guard.
