William J. Boyle, 71, of Schaumburg, husband of Carol, nee Smith; dad of Christopher (Ashley) and Michael (Teresa); grandpa of Maggie, Hannah, Liam and Emma; brother of Kathleen (Paul) Smith, Mary (late Jerry) Hodge and Monica (Tom) Wendling and the late Patrick; uncle of many nieces and nephews and son of the late William, Sr and Kathleen. He died peacefully surrounded by his family on Friday September 1. To know Bill was to love him. No one was safe from Bill’s jokes or antics. He was known for carrying around fake bugs, reptiles, or anything that would give a good startle. He had an infinite amount of jokes and riddles and would tell them to anyone at any time! If heaven gave superlatives, Bill would most definitely receive “Class Clown.” He loved his family dearly- wife Carol of 44 years, sons Chris (Ashley) and Michael (Teresa). But his greatest joy in life were his grandchildren, Maggie, Liam, Hannah, and Emma. His grandchildren will remember him for his endless amount of energy to play with them, early morning trips to get doughnuts, and the constant laughing from his jokes. Bill also leaves behind three sisters Kathy (Paul), Mary, Mona (Tom) and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Bill retired in 2021 from the City of Naperville after working there 33 years. Prior to the City of Naperville, he worked as a police officer in Chicago and Los Almos, New Mexico. In his free time, Bill loved to watch his beloved White Sox, Bears, and maintain his many virtual leagues with friends from across the globe. He enjoyed working in his yard and being the unofficial mayor of his neighborhood. He also spent many years volunteering as the Chairman of the Septemberfest Committee for the Village of Schaumburg. Bill will be missed as much as he was loved. He made a lasting impression on anyone that met him and the world is a little less bright without him here. The family would like to thank the many doctors and nurses that cared for Bill. Their love for their patients and job showed in their care for him. Visitation Friday, September 8th, 2:00 pm - 8:00 pm at the Countryside Funeral Home and Crematory 333 S. Roselle Rd. (1/2 mile South of Irving Park Rd.) Roselle. Funeral Saturday, September 9th, beginning with 9:15 am prayers at the funeral home and processing to St. Marcelline Catholic Parish, 822 Springinsguth Rd, Schaumburg, IL 60193 for mass at 10:00 am. . Cremation will be private at the Countryside Crematory. In lieu of flowers donations to the TSC Alliance – Mail-In Donations 8737 Colesville Rd, Suite 400 Silver Spring, MD 20910 would be appreciated.

CPD); loving mother of Debra (Paul) Brisson, Mark (Irene), Michele (David) Mariotti and Lisa (Brian) Halko-Stach; adored grandmother of Michael, Sarah, Sara, Andrew, Michaela and Matthew; dear great grandmother of Noah and Luke; fond sister of Andrew Prusak. Michael D. Kostecki, 73, of North Aurora passed away at his home on Sunday, September 3, 2023. Mike was born in Chicago, Illinois, on March 29, 1950, the eldest son of Bernard and Margaret (Zilke) Kostecki. He graduated from York High School and received his bachelor’s degree in criminal justice from Western Illinois University. He received his master’s degree from National Lewis University in December 1999. He faithfully served as a member of the Addison Police Department for 26 years and was instrumental in establishing DuPage County’s first Gang Crimes Unit during his time. Although it was difficult to leave Addison, he was excited for a new opportunity in McHenry, becoming the Chief of Police, sworn in on June 30, 1999. After retiring from law enforcement in November 2001, he continued a life of service as a bus driver for the West Aurora School District. In recent years, he enjoyed volunteering for the LCMS Lutheran Early Response Team (LERT), traveling to communities far and wide in need of assistance following natural and man-made disasters. Mike’s pride and joy was his family. He married the love of his life, Catherine J. Garis, on August 28, 1971. They raised two beautiful daughters together. Mike’s workshop is where the girls sent all their toys and jewelry to be repaired. He would wake them up every Saturday morning to the sounds of Bob Seger Live from Detroit while he made them Mickey Mouse pancakes. He loved to tease them on Christmas morning that the girls should wait until Easter to open their gifts, and would purposely call their boyfriends by the wrong name. He was a dedicated and loving Papa to his grandchildren. They had him wrapped around their little fingers. There was nothing he wouldn’t do to make them smile. Mike was an avid reader. He read the morning paper, front to back, every day. He was a model airplane enthusiast and long time member of the Fox Valley Aero Club. He is survived by his loving daughters, Melissa (Mark) Malaniuk and Laura (Jeff) Porretto; grandchildren Max and Madison Malaniuk; his brothers, Tim (Anna), John (Cathy), and Gary (Sue); several nieces and nephews; and his faithful canine companion, Meg. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 52 years, Cathy, and his parents, Bernard and Margaret. A memorial visitation will be held Friday, September 8 from 9:30AM until 11:00AM at Moss Funeral Home, 209 S. Batavia Ave., Batavia, IL. Immediately following will be a memorial service at 11:00AM. Private burial. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations will be appreciated for Hesed House, 659 S. River St., Aurora, IL 60506, (630) 897-2156.
