Gerard J. Carroll 49619909

Gerard J. Carroll was born to James T. and Mary Catherine Carroll on February 8, 1955. He was a lifelong Southsider, raised in Little Flower Parish in “the old neighborhood” alongside his brothers, the late Daniel (Mary Ellen), Dennis (Mary), and James (Cynthia). He eventually settled in St. Cajetan Parish in West Beverly with his beloved wife of nearly 36 years, Susan (née Ingersoll). There, he raised his cherished children, Timothy Gerard (Mary Elizabeth) and Mary Kathryn (Alec Middleton). He was a proud Pop to his grandson, Leo Gerard. To many others, he was a beloved brother-in-law, uncle, great uncle, and cousin.

He had a distinguished 32-year career with the Chicago Police Department, retiring at the rank of Captain in late 2011. A tireless worker, he also served with the Cook County State’s Attorney and worked as an appraiser. Despite his professional success, his proudest achievement was that he never let his work ethic interfere with his family life, never missing his kid’s football games, father-daughter dances, or parents’ weekends at Dayton.

He will be remembered for his sweet tooth, his sense of humor, his selflessness, and his courage.
