James Joseph Begley, retired CPD, of Chicago, age 93, passed away peacefully on September 12th. surrounded by his family. James was the beloved husband of over 58 years to the late Colette M. (nee Wall), loving and devoted father of Mary (Giuseppe) Saso and Sheila Begley; cherished grandfather of Megan and Caitlin; fond uncle and great uncle to many nieces and nephews. Dear cousin and friend to many. He will be missed by his sister, Mary Wilson (late Francis) and his sister-in-law, Mary Shaughnessy (late Donald). Loving brother-in-law of the late James and Rita Wall and Raymond and Gina Arndt. James was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Martin and Mary (O’Shea) Begley and his in-laws, James and Irene Wall. James was a dedicated and proud Chicago Police Lieutenant for over 37 years before he retired from the 16th District in 1995. James will be remembered for his warmth, kindness and generosity. He was the definition of a true gentleman and never had a bad word to say about anyone. James was a devoted husband and father who always put his family first throughout the years. He was so proud of his granddaughters, Megan and Caitlin, who followed in their grandmother’s footsteps and became registered nurses this year. There was nothing he enjoyed more than taking his granddaughters to get ice cream at Sweet Oasis. A lifelong Chicagoan, James attended St. Mel’s High School where he played football and basketball. He was proud of his Irish roots and was a devout Catholic who lived his faith in his everyday actions. The Begley family would like to thank James’s devoted and beloved caregivers, Jomar, Mona, Ronald, Seth, James, Michael and Carm who lovingly cared for him this year. A special thank you to Vitas Hospice for a peaceful end to his earthly journey. Visitation Friday, September 19th from 9:30 AM until time of prayer 11:00 AM at Gibbons Family Funeral Home 5917 W. Timothy J. Brown, 69 passed away September 13, 2025. He was born April 26, 1956 in Chicago, IL. He was the loving son of the late Thomas P. Brown and Julia Margaret nee Ferguson of Chicago. Tim was one of seven children and grew up in the Mt. Greenwood neighborhood on the South Side of Chicago. He attended St. Christina’s Elementary School and St. Rita of Cascia High School. He proudly became a Fireman for the City of Chicago and retired as a Captain with 31 years of service. He has five children James, Daniel, Thomas, Elizabeth and Timothy. The most important things in Tim’s life were his families at home and at the Firehouse. He had great faith and was a devoted parishioner of St. Christina’s Parish. Tim is survived by his five children, James, Daniel, Thomas (Christina), Elizabeth (Matthew) Vaci and Timothy (Anne); and ten grandchildren, Oliver and Duke Brown, Olivia, Bella and Vinny Vaci, Kelly, Keiran, Dorian, Cameron and Mary Kate Brown. In addition, he is survived by siblings, the late Geraldine (the late Richard) Pizzo, Thomas P. (Maureen) Brown, Patti Ann (the late James) Smith, Maureen (late Lawrence) Dunn, Theresa (Leonard) Smith, and Rose Marie (David) Johnson. A visitation will be held from 3:00 pm until 8:00 pm on Tuesday September 16, 2025, at Palos Gaidas Funeral Home, 11028 Southwest Hwy, Palos Hills, IL. The Prayer service will be at 7:00 p.m. The Mass of Catholic Burial will be celebrated at 9:30 am on Wednesday September 17, 2025 at St. Christina Catholic Church, 3342 W. 111th Street in Chicago. Tom McGrath (Ret. CFD), age 73. Late of Hegewisch. Passed away on September 14, 2025. He was born August 21, 1952, in Chicago, IL. Beloved husband of Jackie (nee Ritchie). Loving father of James (CFD), Kevin (CFD) and the late Kelly McGrath. Dearest brother of Kevin (Andrea) McGrath, Dennis McGrath, and Mary Kay (Dave) Banik. Fond brother -in- law, uncle, and incredible friend to many. He leaves behind his faithful companion Ruger. Preceded in death by his parents Thomas and Kathleen McGrath, and brother Patrick McGrath. Tom was a veteran of the U.S. Army, member of Wolf Lake Rod and Gun Club, and most proud of being a Bad Boy of Roseland on Engine 62 for 34 years with the Chicago Fire Department. Tom was one of a kind and will be greatly missed by all.
