Edward Kroyer obituary, 81, of Chicago, passed away peacefully at home on August 5, 2025. Eddie lived a full and meaningful life, defined by service, loyalty, and love. A proud United States Marine, Corporal Kroyer served in Vietnam as an aircraft mechanic and with the United States Marine Corps logistical and base defense unit. After returning home in 1966, he continued his commitment to service by becoming a Chicago Police Officer, spending his career in the Mass Transition Unit. There, he found not only a career he loved but also lifelong friendships and countless unforgettable stories. He had a deep love for his late wife, Cynthia “Cindy” M. Kroyer, who passed in 2022. Together they built a small but mighty family that was the center of Eddie’s world. His daughter, Kelly, was the light of his life, and during his later years, his greatest joy came from being “Papa” to his grandkids; Keera and Felix. He developed a strong bond with his son-in-law, Pierce, over the last decade. Born to Edward L. Kroyer and Emily (Brannen) Kroyer, Eddie grew up in a large, lively family alongside his siblings Nancy, Carol, Cindy, Tony, and Michelle and eventual step-dad, Joseph Mazziotti. Eddie was known as a man who could fix just about anything. Whether it was a broken appliance, a stubborn car, or just lending a hand when someone needed help, he never hesitated to jump in and be that person. He was happiest with grease on his hands, a project on his mind, and people he loved nearby. Beyond his role as a fixer, Eddie was a passionate Harley rider, taking countless cross-country trips with friends. He will be remembered for his loyalty, his sense of humor, his love of the open road, and most of all the art of storytelling. If you had spent any time with Eddie, you likely were told a very detailed story about his many life experiences. He loved reminiscing about the cherished friendships he made over the years and all of the wild memories he made after 81 trips around the sun. Eddie’s legacy lives on in the lessons he taught, the stories he told, and the countless memories shared with those who knew him. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, September 3, from 5-7pm at Olson Burke/Sullivan Funeral & Cremation Center, 6467 N. Northwest Hwy., Chicago, IL 60631. Eddie and his beloved wife Cindy will be laid to rest together at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery, 20953 W. Hoff Rd, Elwood, IL on Thursday, September 4, at 11am. All are welcome to both.
