Philip A. Dienethal Sr., age 89, of Bensenville, formerly of Chicago, Ret. CPD. Beloved husband of the late Rita Dienethal, nee Kaiser; loving father of Philip (Patty) Dienethal Jr., Brent (Terri) Dienethal, and Diana (Rich) Behnke; dear son of the late Edwin and the late Evelyn Dienethal; devoted grandfather of Patrice (Scott) Sherer, Natalie Dienethal, Lauren (Phillip) Williamson, Caleb, Joshua, and Aaron (Katie) Dienethal, Rich (Renee), Michael (Caroline), and Matthew (Lynda) Behnke, Megan (Todd) Millar; great grandfather of Emma, Scotty, Kate, Phillip, Mia, Jack, Corbin, Chance, Charleigh, Dylan, Isabella, Xander, Austin, Shelby, Madelyn, Brooklyn, Jolene, Lainey, Gunner, Evelyn, Cash, and Scarlett; fond brother of Kenneth Dienethal and the late Edwin Dienethal; uncle of many nieces and nephews. Philip was a proud Chicago Police Officer for 30 years, five of them as a bodyguard to the former mayor Richard J. Daley. Phil was married to his beautiful wife, Rita, for 63 years. Visitation Friday, August 1, 2025, 9:00 AM until the time of funeral service at 11:00 AM, at Knollcrest, 1500 S. Meyers Road, Lombard, IL 60148. Interment Irving Park Cemetery. Boris “Kuki” Kukolja, age 68, late of East Side, passed away July 30, 2025. Beloved Partner of Patricia “Patti” O’Hara. Loving father of Sandra (Cesar) Toscano, Ivana Kukolja and Joseph (Jennifer) O’Hara, CFD. Devoted Grandpa to Cesar Joseph Toscano, Leo Michael Toscano, Patrick, Mary Rose and Josephine O’Hara. Dearest brother of the late Mira Kukolja. Boris fought a courageous four-year battle with cancer. Born in Zagreb, Croatia, Boris was a devoted father, partner, and grandfather whose quiet strength and deep love touched all who knew him. A talented soccer player and lover of life, Boris found joy in simple moments—playing bocce with friends or dancing at family celebrations. His warmth, humility, and zest for life made him truly unforgettable. Boris leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and cherished memories. He will be deeply missed by his children, grandchildren, partner, and everyone fortunate enough to know him. Michael Patrick McCarthy, age 29, beloved son of John “Jack” Ret. EPPD and Catherine (nee Jackson). Loving brother of Kevin, MPD (Danielle) McCarthy, Meghan McCarthy, Timothy McCarthy, and Ryan, CPD McCarthy. Cherished uncle of Warren McCarthy, and true companion to Schatzi, his German Shepherd. Adored nephew, cousin, and friend to many. Michael was a crane operator with Teamsters Local 710 and was a proud and loyal Chicago Blackhawks fan. Michael was born August 12, 1999, and was the youngest of five McCarthy children. As the youngest, he had beautiful red hair to help him stand out in every family photo. Michael was a quiet, steady presence and would throw out one-liners to remind us just how funny he was. Michael was also the favorite amongst the numerous pets in the McCarthy household and was adored by any animal he encountered, a true testament to his kind, loving character. He enjoyed spending time with his family and many friends, playing video games, and suffering through Blackhawks games. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him. Visitation will be Sunday, August 3, 2025, from 3-8 p.m. at the Robert J. Sheehy & Sons Funeral Home, 9000 W. 151st St., Orland Park, IL. Please wear your Blackhawks gear in honor of Michael. Edward John Shortall, age 76, passed away on July 26, 2025. Born to the late Dr. James Patrick and Mary Jane Shortall, Edward dedicated his life to his family, service, most notably as a Vietnam Veteran, courageously serving as a door gunner with the 1st Cavalry Division. Edward is lovingly remembered by his wife, Carol; his children, Sean (Megan) and Jonathan; and his cherished grandchildren, Kelly, Jack, and Eliana. He also leaves behind his brother, Michael (Sue), his sister, Joan, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his siblings, James Patrick III (Rosemary), Theresea Caputo (Don), Mary Ellen Amabile (Ralph), Patricia, and Francis (Joan). A Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, August 1, 2025, 11:30am, at St. Juliana’s Catholic Church, 7201 North Oketo Avenue, Chicago, IL. Internment at All Saints Cemetery in Des Plaines, IL. 01 AUGUST UNIFORM PAYMENT Please be advised that union dues are being deducted from your uniform allowance payment. Union dues will not be deducted from your regular paycheck on 07 August. You may notice your net pay is lower than expected on the 07 August regular paycheck. This is due to the fact that less tax was taken from the uniform allowance payment. However, there is no decrease in overall net pay for both checks. Thank you for your attention!
