Joseph Diaz, decorated Vietnam Combat Veteran and Retired Chicago Police Officer age 75, passed away peacefully on June 16th, 2025, surrounded by loved ones. A proud United States Marine Corps veteran, Joe served with honor and distinction in the Vietnam War, earning several commendations for his bravery in combat. Following his military service, Joe dedicated over 40 years to the Chicago Police Department, where he was known for his integrity, toughness, and deep commitment to the community he served. Joe's life was one of service — to his country, his city, and his family. He will be remembered for his sharp wit, unshakable loyalty, and the quiet strength he carried through every chapter of his life. Joe’s legacy lives on in the lives he touched, as a marine, as an officer, as a father and as a friend. Cherished husband of Diane Diaz nee Veith; loving father of Shannon Diaz and Brendan (Linzi) Diaz; beloved son of the late Luis and Maria Diaz nee Perera; fond grandfather of Henry Joseph; dear brother of Rachel (Larry) Poli and the late Bill Diaz; Brother-in-law of Daniel (Lynn) Veith, fond uncle of many nieces and nephews. Nick P. Marino, 96, late of Tinley Park, formerly of Chicago (South Chicago). Retired C.F.D. and US Army Veteran Korean Conflict. Beloved son of his late parents, Samuel and Benedicta (nee Bogdan). Cherished husband of Barbara (nee Barbich). Devoted father of; Paul, Beth, James, and Steven. Loving brother of his 7 late siblings. Dearest grandfather of 9. Dearest great-grandfather of 8. Fond uncle and friend of many. Nick had a true love for the Chicago Fire Dept. and enjoyed his work immensely. He was an avid tennis player, and played well into his 80's, even competing on the Senior Olympics Team where he was awarded numerous trophies. He had a love for the Chicago White Sox and cheered for any opponent of the Chicago Cubs. He was also a Notre Dame football fan, and held a season pass where he enjoyed many a game in person. He loved to attend parties and was proud to be the "last to leave". He was a great storyteller and conversationalist and once talked on the phone for 20 minutes to the other party, even after realizing he dialed the wrong number. Memorial Visitation, Mass and further details to follow shortly. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Nick's name to the St. Vincent DePaul Society and the Chicago Fire Dept. Yolanda Theresa Salcedo (nee Villa) July 28, 1951-June 15, 2025, age 73, of Chicago gained her wings in Heaven on Sunday June 15,2025. Loving devoted mother of Carmen Salcedo and Ramon (Karol) Salcedo Jr.; grandmother of Mia and Emma Salcedo; fond sister of Henry (Vicky) Villa Jr.; aunt of Henry Villa III and Amanda Villa; she also leaves her grand dogs: Cody and Brandy and Lucky the bird; many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Enrique and Carmen Villa (nee Gonzalez), sister, Carmen Villa, and brother, Joseph Villa. Yolanda retired from United Airlines after 30 years in customer service, she enjoyed traveling especially to Hawaii and Las Vegas with her family. She was loved by many and will be missed even more. Visitation Sunday, June 22, 2025, from 2:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Palos-Gaidas Funeral Home 11028 Southwest Highway, Palos Hills, IL. 60465. FREE, confidential services are available to all Department members (sworn and civilian) and their immediate family. EAP has professionally trained clinicians, sworn alcohol and substance use counselors, certified peer support members, and chaplains, and is just a phone call away. Services can be obtained at any of the three EAP Locations: 1759 W. Adams, 5440 N. Cumberland, and 11540 S. Western. Other resources are also available by calling the EAP number at 312-743-0378.
