Sylvia Joyce Hollandsworth (nee Gibson), age 87, of Oak Lawn, Illinois passed away on Sunday, June 1, 2025. Native of Trenton, TN, beloved wife of 70 years to Leonard Barker (Retired CPD). Loving mother of Pamela (Thomas) Van Dyke, Lori Hollandsworth, Michael (Susan) Hollandsworth, Steven (Sandra) Hollandsworth. Proud grandmother of Joseph CFD (Colleen), Michael, Jessica, Alexandra (Fiance Daniel), Matthew, and Samuel. Great-grandmother Jackson, Audrey and James. Joyce was a wonderful person and will be greatly missed. A visitation will be held on Friday June 6, 2025 at Chapel Hill Garden South Funeral Home 11333 S. Central Ave, Oak Lawn from 10:00am until 12:00pm, with a chapel funeral service to immediately follow. Interment Chapel Hill Garden South Cemetery.

Rose Mary McGathey nee Gonzalez. Age 101. Longtime East Hazel Crest resident, formerly of Chicago’s Roseland Neighborhood. Born December 5, 1923 in Topeka, Kansas. Graduate of Fenger High School Class of 1941. Retired Secretary from the Illinois Central Railroad after 25 years of service. Longtime parishioner of St Anne Church in Hazel Crest where she was a 40 year choir member and former choir director at St Anthony Parish in Roseland. Founding member of the Women’s Auxiliary of the East Hazel Crest Fire Department. Wife for 67 years of the late Richard H. “Dick” McGathey. Mother of Richard (Pam) McGathey, Ramon (Nancy) McGathey, Monica (Matthew) Elsey, Anna Marie (John) White, Ronald (Brenda) McGathey, Virginia McGathey, Victoria (Michael) Kiehl, Ret. Cpt Randolph (Jill) McGathey, CFD and Rose Mary (Daniel) Pope. Grandmother of 20. Great grandmother of 37. Daughter of the late Angelina nee Gallardo and Victor Gonzalez. Sister of Shirley (late Frank) Garcia, Louis (Carole) Gonzalez, A. Augustine (late Cheryl) Gonzalez, Dolores “Lola” (Jesus) Ortiz, Linda Umstattd, Christine (late Robert) Callahan, the late Mary Rose (late Ralph) Rodriguez, Victor (late Betty) Gonzalez and Lucille (late Gabriel) Tijerina. Richard Preusen, born in Chicago, Richard spent nearly his entire life in the city he loved. He is survived by his beloved wife Elaine, and his first wife, Lia Preusen-Schuch. A devoted father and grandfather, Richard leaves behind his two children, Kristin Pugliese (Daniel) and Scott Preusen (Appi), and seven cherished grandchildren: Olivia Lee (Adam), Amanda, Daniel, Ericka, Ashton, Sofia, and Grayson. He is also survived by his brothers James Preusen and David Preusen (Carol). Affectionately known as "Grandpa Gus"—a nickname given by his eldest granddaughter, Olivia, in honor of his loyal dog Gus—Richard adored his grandchildren. He was known for his fun-loving spirit, often taking them on memorable outings to museums, zoos, theaters, and more around the Chicago area. He was a constant presence in their lives, faithfully attending their sporting events, dance recitals, and school plays—always cheering them on with pride and love. Richard dedicated much of his life to teaching drafting at Lane Tech High School, where he was a respected and beloved educator. His passion for teaching was matched only by his deep love for music. As the longtime bandleader of the Dick Elliot Orchestra, he brought the sounds of jazz and big band swing to ballrooms, weddings, jazz clubs, and senior centers across Chicagoland. A skilled musician, Richard played both electric and upright bass and curated one of the largest private sheet music collections in the city. His wife Elaine often sang with the orchestra, and the two also shared a love of ballroom dancing. Before his teaching and music career, Richard served his community and country. He was a member of the U.S. Army Reserve and served as a Chicago police officer for ten years, including time on the mounted patrol and as a trumpet player in the Chicago Police Department’s Pipes and Drums. As a young man, he lived in Des Plaines, IL, where he developed a lifelong love of animals and horses—especially his childhood horse, Billie, and a dog he rescued and brought home, lovingly named Boots. Richard held master’s degrees in public administration and education. He lived a full life marked by creativity, discipline, and deep devotion to his family and community. Even in his later years at Lincolnwood Place, he remained active in music—singing in the community choir alongside Elaine and continuing to share his joy and talent with others. He will be remembered for his warmth, his music, his enduring energy, and the joy he brought to every stage of life. Memorial visitation Saturday, June 28th, 1:00 p.m. until a memorial service that will begin at 3:00 p.m. at Friedrichs Funeral Home, 320 W. Central Rd. at Northwest Highway, Mount Prospect.
