Forwarded from Sgt. Al Piantkowski retired CPD
001 Friends,
I'm sad to report that our 001 colleague and friend Bill Olson passed away today.
Bill, over the years, was suffering from the ravages of his exposure to Agent Orange in Vietnam, among other health issues.
Bill and I spoke on the phone on a regular basis, sometimes daily, but I hadn't seen him in person for over 30 years.
Knowing that his time on earth was limited, my wife and I drove to Fort Atkinson Wisconsin to personally visit him last November, moreover, sadly... to say goodbye.
I called and spoke with him last on Thursday, 20 March, the anniversary date of his being wounded in Vietnam and receiving the Purple Heart. He was very weak, and they were about to move him to a hospice setting shortly thereafter.
Rose, his wife, said that his funeral is likely to be in Wisconsin with a memorial here in Chicago sometime later, yet to be determined and announced.
Kindly join me in keeping Bill and his Family in your thoughts and prayers at this most difficult time.
AL PIANTKOWSKI!
