Long time Mt. Prospect resident Michael James Kruchten passed away this past Saturday surrounded by family and friends after a battle with AML (Leukemia). Mike or Mickey, as his family called him, was born April 28, 1947 to Mathew and Marilyn (nee Elby) Kruchten. He was a proud alumni of East Leyden H.S. where he graduated in 1965. Michael was a Boy Scout and deeply believed in their motto “Be Prepared”. He was a police officer in Schiller Park and Mt. Prospect for 34 years and retired as a Commander of Detectives in 1998. Mike was also a diehard Chicago sports fan, especially for the Cubs, Bulls and the Bears. He loved spending time with his family in Green Lake, Wisconsin and vacationing and fishing in Honey Harbour, Canada. He enjoyed watching Westerns, listening to oldies and eating good food, especially Russell's BBQ, Gene and Jude's hotdogs and eclairs from Jarosch's Bakery. He enjoyed bowling, family ping pong tournaments and loved dogs, especially the family pets, usually German Shepherds named after reindeer! More than anything he loved his family and taking care of them. He was the rock of the family, was always there when you needed him and will be remembered by his many friends and acquaintances for his generosity and his friendly personality. He loved to talk! He is survived by his wife of fifty years, Linda Kruchten (nee Williams), his sister Madalyn Radak, brother-in-law David Williams, four children Rena, George (MarySue), David (Emily), Beth (Jamie), eight grandchildren, Emily, Mathew, Jacob, Abbie, Molly, Sadie, Nina, Rose, nieces Andrea (Mike) and Laura (Tad) and nephew Steven. He will be greatly missed. Memorial Visitation Thursday October 2nd, 4:00 – 8:00 PM at Friedrichs Funeral Home, 320 W. Central Rd. at Northwest Hwy. Mt. Prospect. Richard Allen Sampognaro (68) died peacefully Friday, Sept. 12, 2025 in Homewood; after a multi-year battle with Pulmonary Fibrosis and Lung Cancer. Born (9/24/56) and raised in Harvey, IL with siblings; Pat Liace (dec. Rocco), Butch Sampognaro (dec. Sharon) & Bill Sampognaro (Tracy). Married to the Love of His Life, Catherine Sampognaro (Hartley) for 50 glorious years; in Homewood, IL where he raised Heather (Matt Joyce), Julie (Bryan Schaffrath), Amy Sanaghan & Richard Allen Sampognaro Jr (Angela) and was blessed with 10 grandchildren; Brianna (fiancé Aidan), Payton, Allison, Edward, Alivia, Ricky III, Mary, Rocco, Bryan, Sofia and great-grandchild Asher. Fondly remembered by his nieces and nephews; Bob, Sherry, Dee-Dee, Steve, Lynette, Brian, Stephanie, Doug Eric. He was loved and cherished by the entire Sampognaro & Hartley Family. Rick’s most cherished moments were spent with Cathy, their family and friends, at “The Compound”, at grandchildren’s sporting events, dining out and birthday breakfasts where he was the short order cook making everyone’s favorites. Rick was always willing to test the waters in hopes of hitting the big one at the boats. He found great pride & joy in teaching ALL his grandchildren how to swim. He supported his family and community as a Retired Lieutenant for the Homewood Fire Department and business owner of Rick’s Auto Care, then partnering with his brother Bill at Flossmoor Family Automotive. Rick & Rick Jr. ultimately combined their talents and established R & R Maintenance, Inc. (Glenwood, IL) servicing municipalities throughout Illinois & Indiana and countless valued customers. Devoting his time to volunteer for all of his children’s activities, Rick built life-long relationships thru Homewood Baseball & Softball and St. Joseph’s Church. He will forever be remembered for his warm hugs, welcoming smile and generous giving spirit. He is returned to Stephen & Myrtle Sampognaro (Gibson), Kathleen & Jack Cullinan and Ray Hartley. Resting at the Tews-Ryan Funeral Home, 18230 Dixie Highway, Homewood, IL. 60430 Wednesday, September 24th, 2025 from 12 – 6pm.
