Nick J.Battista, a cherished member of his community, passed away peacefully on August 17, 2025, at the age of 94. Born on July 5, 1931, Nick dedicated over 30 years of his life to serving as a Chicago Police Officer, a vocation that reflected his deep commitment to public safety and the welfare of others. In addition to his commendable career in law enforcement, Nick was a proud Korean War Veteran, having served honorably in the United States Air Force. His dedication to his country and his unwavering sense of duty were qualities that defined his life. Nick is survived by his beloved sister, Carmella (late Salvatore) Monteleone, and he leaves behind a legacy as an uncle, great uncle, and great great uncle to many who will fondly remember his warmth and guidance throughout their lives. He was preceded in death by his brother, Frank (late Georgeanne) Battista, who will be lovingly remembered alongside him. A Mass honoring his life was held privately at St. Philip the Apostle Catholic Church in Addison on Saturday August 23, 2025, Nick's legacy of service and love for his family and community will forever remain in the hearts of those he touched. Carmen I. Cristia, age 86, passed away peacefully on August 15, 2025. Carmen was the loving mother of Frank A. Cristia; dearest daughter of the late Carmen (nee Santiago) and the late Manuel Cristia; cherished grandmother of Nicholas and Micayla Cristia; beloved sister of Noel, Maria, Manuel (Gloria) and Robert (the late Klara) Cristia, and she was a fond aunt of many. Retired Chicago Police Officer after 25 years working with the Office of Professional Standards. She was loved dearly by many people all over the world from all of her travels and working abroad. She will be missed dearly by many as well. May she Rest In Peace. Visitation Wednesday, August 27, 2025, from 3:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Cumberland Chapels 8300 W. Lawrence Ave., Norridge, IL. Friends and family will gather at the funeral home on Thursday at 10:00 a.m. for a funeral Service at 10:30 a.m. The interment will follow at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in River Grove. Kevin S. Krug, 74, of Arlington Heights, IL, passed away peacefully Wednesday, August 20, 2025. Kevin spent 18 years at The Chicago Housing Authority and 20 years at The Fraternal Order of Police as a manager of labor and employee relations as well as the chief negotiating officer. Kevin was an avid pool shark and enjoyed spending summers at the lake house at Eagle Lake in Wisconsin. Loving father of Donald S. Krug, Melanie (William) Cleek, and Krystel (Brian) Winter; proud grandfather of Alex, Peyton, Avery, Rilynn, Carter, Chloe, and London; dear brother of Edward (Sandra) Krug, Walter (Cindy) Krug, and the late Kerry Krug; fond uncle of many nieces and nephews; forner husband of Linda Venticinque and Elvira Krug. Cremation private at Countryside Crematory. Memorial visitation Tuesday, August 26 from 10:00 am to 11:00 am at Countryside Funeral Home and Crematory 333 S. Roselle Rd. The Chicago Police Department Recruitment and Retention Unit, in collaboration with the Chicago Fire Department, and the City of Chicago Office of Emergency Management, proudly announce the Public Safety Community Fair on Saturday, 27 September 2025, from 1100 to 1500 hours at Public Safety Headquarters, located at 3510 South Michigan Avenue. This free, family-friendly event offers a unique opportunity to meet professionals from a variety of public safety sectors. Attendees can enjoy live demonstrations, connect with on-site job recruiters and mentors, and participate in engaging activities for all ages. All community members and their families are welcome. The event will be held outdoors in the Public Safety Headquarters parking lot. Please note: There will be no parking allowed in the Public Safety Headquarters (PSHQ) parking lot from 0600 to 1800 hours on the day of the event. During this time, Department personnel assigned to or visiting PSHQ are authorized to park in the IIT-owned parking lots D4 and D5 (also known as the De La Salle Institute parking lots), located at 3434 South Michigan Avenue. After 1800 hours, Department personnel are no longer authorized to park in the IIT lots. Any vehicles remaining after this time may be subject to ticketing and/ or towing.
