Rose Figueroa is survived by her husband Edwin Figueroa, her son Francisco, her daughters Joann, Margie, and Nicole. Rose was not only just our mother but a grandmother to Rosa, Antionette , Frankie Jr., Kristina, Ashley, Isaiah, Edwin (Chunker), Jada, Jacquelyn, Julian, Genesis and Jaxson. As well as a great-grandmother to Julius, Jonathan, Rara, Eros, Jordali, Anthony, Baby Frankie, Sade, Enzo, Lotus, Milly, Melody and the newest addition Deliah Rose. Rose was vibrant and free and lived life on her own terms. She was one of the strongest women I have ever known. She was resilient and stubborn and definitely spoke her mind, ALWAYS! She gave from her heart and would give a lending hand to anyone she felt was in need. She will be missed immensely. (The Funeral has been held on 2 and 3 July)

Shirley Jean McSweeney, née Wallace, age 90, passed away peacefully on July 1, 2025.Beloved wife of the late Robert J. McSweeney, Ret. CPD. Loving mother of Kathleen Heffernan (the late James), Hon. (Ret.) Colleen McSweeney-Moore (John), Robert McSweeney, Ret. CPD (Brid), Maureen Escherich (the late Arthur), Timothy McSweeney (Julia), Mary McSweeney, and Julie Rush (Robert).Cherished grandmother of Patrick Heffernan (Meghan), Daniel Heffernan, Maggie Moore (fiancé Dennis Gross), Kelly Moore, Mallory McSweeney (Philip Mc Laughlin), Lauren Morse (Brett), Maura Williams (Michael), Katie Escherich, Claire Galbraith (Brendan), Rory McSweeney (Sarah Nadolski), Maeve McSweeney, Nicholas Stiglich, and Muriel Stiglich. Dear great-grandmother of Robert and James Heffernan, Ava and Conor Moore, and Philip Mc Laughlin. Fond sister of Robert and Donald Davis, and sister-in-law to the late Therese (the late James) Houstma, the late Maureen (the late Bud) Marquardt, and Bette Garrity. Fond aunt to many nieces and nephews. Shirley was a longtime 19th Ward precinct captain and judge of elections. She loved traveling across the U.S. and Europe with her husband, Bob, often with the CPD Sergeants Association. She spent many years as a dedicated employee of Chicago Public Schools, where she served as a truancy officer among other roles. The family extends heartfelt thanks to Smith Village for the care and compassion provided in recent months. Visitation will be held Saturday, July 5, from 9:00 a.m. until time of Mass at 11:00 a.m. at St. John Fisher Church, 10235 S. Fairfield Ave., Chicago. Passed away RONALD ROTHSTEIN, father of Police Officer Ryan Rothstein, and Police Officer Melissa Rothstein assigned to District 024.

Ronald M. Rothstein, 65, beloved husband of Candy for 32 years; loving father of Melissa Rothstein (David Mengeling) and Ryan Rothstein (Melany Vintimilla); cherished Papa of Landon Rothstein; devoted son of the late Terry and Marshall Rothstein; dear brother of Richard (Susan), Robert (Marianne), Randall (Carol), and Jeffery (Tiffiny) Rothstein; treasured uncle, godfather, cousin, and friend of many. Ron was a Chicago Streets and Sanitation employee for 33 1/2 years. He was a true jack of all trades, master of many, that enjoyed numerous hobbies, who was widely known for his stained-glass artwork. Passed away 28 June 2025 ROSALIA SILVA, mother of Police Officer Gerardo Silva assigned to District 002, and Police Officer Leo Silva assigned to District 008.

Rosalia Silva (née Carranza Alba), age 67, passed away peacefully on June 28, 2025. Rosalia was born in El Astillero, Valparaíso, Zacatecas, Mexico to the late Juan Carranza and Sabina Alba. She was a proud immigrant who became a true Chicagoan and U.S. citizen, living in the Pilsen and Back of the Yards neighborhoods, where she built a beautiful life with her husband of 47 years, Leodegario Silva. Together, they raised six children: Mario, Jaime, Hector, Angelica, Gerardo, and Leo. They were also blessed with four beloved grandchildren: Julian, Delilah, Olivia, and Ximena. She is survived by her siblings: Carmen, Cuca, Anita, Ignacio, Graciela, Leonila, Carlos, and Rogelio; and was preceded in death by her sister Lucina. Rosalia was deeply loved by her many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and countless friends. A determined, independent woman, Rosalia was a go-getter who didn't make excuses; she simply figured it out. Though she never drove a car, she navigated Chicago using public transportation, finding her way throughout the city with confidence and ease. She loved exploring and being out in the community. A devout Catholic, Rosalia was deeply committed to her faith. She volunteered for many years at St. Pius Church, which she lovingly referred to as her second home. She also volunteered at Salazar Elementary for approximately 24 years, assisting wherever the school needed her to. She cared greatly for the children and the entire school community.Rosalia was the life of the party-she loved to dance, sing, and celebrate with others. She had a warm, outgoing personality that made strangers feel like friends, often getting invited to weddings, baptisms, and life events after a single encounter. She had a true gift for making people feel seen and loved. She was extremely proud of her children and talked often about their accomplishments and careers. Her love for her grandchildren brought her immense joy, especially in recent years. She cherished family outings, get-togethers, and gift shopping for her loved ones. Above all, Rosalia was someone who always thought of others constantly checking on people's well-being and doing what she could to lift their spirits. Her presence lit up every room, and her legacy will live on in the love she gave, the joy she spread, and the strength she showed every day. Robert M. Soprych (Bob) 82 of Glendale Arizona passed away in his home Sunday 6/22/25. He is survived by his wife of 25 years Sandy, beloved son Robert Soprych, wife Nancy and granddaughter Bella, Jennifer Lewis and grandsons Mason and Caleb, Daniel Lewis and wife Lynn’s grandson's Logan and Tate, granddaughter Trystan. Brothers Wayne,wife Pat, and Greg, and wife Peg. Bob was born in Chicago and attended St. George High School. At 16 he enlisted into the Navy with his mother's written permission and was assigned to the USS Gurke for 4 years. After which he was employed by the City of Chicago and retired in 1998 after 30+ years as Chief Operating Engineer for the City of Chicago Police Department. He then moved to Arizona where he met the love of his life Sandy, together they enjoyed long Harley rides with fellow Chicago retirees discovering new sights and beautiful desert vistas, stopping along the way to explore his new home and marvel at all Arizona had to offer. Bob was able to fulfill his childhood dream of "becoming a cowboy", just like in the movies...till his horse spooked and he landed on a rock, he was airlifted to the hospital with a split head wound, broken ribs, and a cracked shoulder which ended his boyhood "Cowboy Dream". He was a handyman extraordinaire, could design, build, or fix any and everything from furniture to machinery. An amazing problem solver, family and friends often came for advice when stumped by some obscure issue, he would answer with methodical precision after sleeping on it for a day or two. He had a life full of adventure, if you were one of the lucky few, he'd share his stories with you, leaving you in hysterics and laughing till you cried. Of course, there may have been some embellishment to make the stories more interesting, but that was Bob. His annual trip to Chicago was something he looked forward to all year and was planned with great care so he could connect with cherished family and lifelong friends. He will be dearly missed by all!
