Warren “Butch” Joseph Brownlee, 88 years old of Lake Villa, IL passed away Wednesday, March 19, 2025. He was born December 15, 1936 to the late Harry and Tessie (Koelstra) Brownlee at St. Therese Hospital in Waukegan, IL. Butch spent his early years growing up in Lake Villa and attending Lake Villa Grade School. His secondary education took place at Antioch High School with a full and successful four years of athletics and other events offered. Butch served as the quarterback of the football team and was even honored to be chosen as Prom King. Upon graduation, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corp and was stationed in California where he spent two years in food service. After he was discharged, he returned home to Lake Villa where he met his wife, Alice Kathleen Shea and on October 22, 1960, they were married at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Wadsworth, IL. During their 64 years of marriage, they enjoyed traveling, attending road rallies, going on snowmobile trips, and opening their home for numerous dinners and events. His friends are left to cherish the wonderful memories made up north and in Canada as they went snowmobiling, fishing, and hunting. Butch was active in the Lake Villa Volunteer Fire Department as a firefighter and divemaster, who eventually achieved the rank of lieutenant after 25 years of service. In addition, he served on the Village of Lake Villa Planning and Zoning Board. He spent 27 years in the Meat Cutters Union and became a skilled butcher. Before his retirement, he worked as an inspector for the Lake County Building and Zoning Department from 1986-2004. During his retirement, Butch enjoyed working with the Lake Villa Township Office and taking seniors for weekly shopping trips. Butch was known for his die-hard love of the Chicago Cubs and Chicago Bears. Survivors include, his wife of 64 years, Alice; brother, James (Candace) Brownlee; nieces and nephews, Debbie (Claude) Correia, John Collins, Tim (Shanna) Brownlee, and Ryan (Amy) Brownlee; and great-nieces and nephews. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Claudette Hammond. Visitation will be held from 2:00PM until the time of service at 6:00PM Monday, March 24, 2025 at the STRANG FUNERAL HOME OF ANTIOCH, 1055 Main St. Antioch, IL 60002. Thomas William Manaher, son of the late Thomas (CPD) and Mary (nee Clancy) Manaher, retired CPD Detective, 78, of Chicago, passed away suddenly on March 17, 2025 (St. Patrick’s Day). He is survived by the love of his life, Kerry Long; fond brother of Patrick (Teri) Manaher, Maureen (Michael) O’Reilly, Margaret (Tim) Prendergast; adoring uncle to Kerry (Tim), Colleen (Brian), Katie (Andy), Erin (Sean), Tim, Patrick, Rory (Theresa), Suzy (Justin); loving great-uncle to ten; numerous cousins and extended family, including all of the Long family. In addition to his family, Tom leaves behind countless friends he made throughout his life. His legacy as a dedicated police officer with the Chicago Police Department, where he served for 42 years, is just one testament to his commitment to his community and his passion for justice. He also served in the National Guard, honoring his country with the same devotion he showed throughout his life. Tom was known for his exceptional gift as a storyteller, able to captivate anyone with tales filled with humor, heart, and warmth. His sense of humor was infectious—he had an extraordinary ability to lighten any room with his wit and charm. Whether recounting tales from his days on the force or sharing memories with family and friends, Tom had a unique way of making everyone laugh and feel at ease. A die-hard Cubs fan, a proud supporter of Notre Dame, and a man whose laughter and storytelling will be sorely missed; Tom’s presence brightened the lives of all who knew him. He had a quick wit about him and was always ready to give his unique perspective on the situation, even if he wasn't asked for it. Tom was also a man of thoughtfulness and consistency—he never forgot a family birthday. Whether by card or phone call, he made sure that those he cared about felt special and remembered. His kindness and consideration for others will forever be cherished. Tom was very proud of his Irish heritage, a pride that guided much of his life. So much so that he traced his lineage back to Ireland and had the joy of meeting distant relatives in Moyvane, County Kerry. These connections were a highlight of his life, deepening his love for his roots and allowing him to experience firsthand the warmth and hospitality of the land that shaped his ancestry.
